Four Seasons City Farm Freedom Festival

Hello All,

Four Seasons City Farm would like to invite you and your friends to join us this Saturday October 11th, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm for the Four Seasons City Farm Freedom Festival: A Harvest Celebration. The festival will take place at our largest community garden, The Garden of New Freedom, located at the intersection of Mound Street and Carpenter Street. This year's festivities will include a delicious lunch provided local Columbus restaurants; performances by local musicians; crafts, games, and pumpkins for kids; and more.
Each year we hold a harvest festival in order to celebrate the close of the growing season, thank garden volunteers, and provide an opportunity for the community to come together. We hope that community will include not only our local neighbors, but also members of the Columbus gardening and service community. In fact, if your organization or gardening group interested in sharing information about your work, we invite you to do so by bringing handouts or setting up an information booth.

In close, we hope that you will join us this Saturday, and we look forward to meeting and sharing with you. If you have any questions about the festival or Four Seasons, or if you would like to participate by volunteering or setting up a booth, please contact me as soon as possible at the email below. Thank you for your time and for the great work that you do!

Happy Harvesting!

Partners to take part in 'carrot caravan'

A tour of three community gardens in Columbus will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Dubbed the "carrot caravan," the tour is part of the Three Sisters Community Garden Partnership, a collaboration of three community gardens: the Native American Indian Center Community Garden, the Horn of Africa Community Garden and the East 5th Avenue Urban Women's Community Garden.

Members host monthly potluck dinners and discuss ideas, needs and objectives.
Three Sisters Community Garden Partnership received a grant this summer for garden enhancement and expansion from Yes To Carrots.

Yes To Carrots is an Israel company that produces natural skin and hair-care products that combine anti-oxidants from organic fruits and vegetables with 26 minerals harvested from Israel's Dead Sea.

The "carrot caravan" is free, but attendees must provide their own transportation between gardens.

The tour will begin at 9 a.m. at the Horn of Africa Community Garden, 2154 Eddystone Ave., and continue to the East 5th Avenue garden, 3025 E. 5th Ave., and finish at the Native American Garden, 67 E. Innis Ave. tferan@dispatch.com

I just found out about this festival when we took our trip to Companion Plants. I've heard from many people that it's a great Ohio festival! We're making the road trip, so stay tuned for the full report! What is a Paw Paw you ask?

"The North American native pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is a temperate tree fruit in the mostly tropical custard apple family, Annonaceae. Pawpaw is also a common name for papaya (Carica papaya), a tropical fruit in the family Caricaceae. The two fruits are very different from each other, but some pawpaws do have a papaya-like flavor. For further description of pawpaw, see http://www.pawpaw.kysu.edu/default.htm."

Millersport Corn Festival August 27-30th

When I was a little girl our family went to this festival every year. There is nothing better than sweet Ohio corn, salted and covered in butter. There's more than corn! Parades, beautiful Corn Queens, tractor pulls and I am intrigued by this one..."Outhouse Pulls", yikes! Check out their site and put it on your calendar. This would be a great festival to support our local farmers and have a fine time while you do it. I seem to forget about it every year---so this summer I am determined to not miss it!
